Stepping into Stereotype: Recognizing and Reworking our  Prejudice on Stage and in the Moment

Saturday, May 29 | 10 a.m.-1 p.m. CT

Saturday, June 12 | 10 a.m.-1 p.m. CT

$40 per person

From two different cultural backgrounds, North African and the American South, Heyfa Limam and Shannon Stott are no strangers to being stereotyped. They come together to bring you a workshop addressing the use of race, gender, and culture clichés on stage. When someone is lumping you into a stereotype or you have stereotyped someone else, fear can take over and lead to all sorts of uncomfortable situations. In this workshop, Heyfa and Shannon create a safe space where you may learn to play with and against stereotypes, broaden your awareness, learn from your missteps, and move through your scene with respect for your scene partner, your audience, and yourself.

Between Beats

Saturday, June 5 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. CT

Saturday, June 19 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. CT

$40 per person

Explore the moments between dialogue in this Specialty Workshop. We’ll focus on treating the unsaid on stage with as much gravity as we treat what is said. Together, we’ll learn the importance of silence in your scenes, learning to lean into it rather than filling it. Discover how silence adds depth to your characters, weight to your storytelling, and builds trust between you and your audience.

Storytelling in Short Form

Saturday, June 26 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. CT

Saturday, July 10 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. CT

$40 per person

In entertaining our audiences with quick wit, impossible time constraints, and ever changing scene restrictions, we often sacrifice grounded storytelling in Short Form. In this workshop, we take the time to practice holding tight to established characters, environment and stakes so that when time is Short, and Form is wild, your scene is strong.
